Hello,
I haven't written a post in a long time! I guess Facebook has sucked up all my time and energy for posting photo albums, but I miss my blog so I will start posting some here too.
Currently Emma and I are cruising in the Amazon on HAL Veendam. Not the most exciting locale I've ever been, but eye-opening for sure. We stopped in the village of Boca de Valeria, Brazil which was essentially a few houses on stilts along the river. The locals and people from nearby villages all came in to town to see the cruise ship and the strange new visitors. Everyone was showing off their children, dressed in homemade traditional native garb. Some invited people into their homes to see what life was like in a small village along the river. Besides children, people were showing off their wildlife as well, letting people see monkeys, parrots, toucans, a sloth and a capybara. People were taken in small boats down the river to see giant lilies. The cruise guests were told to bring things ashore for the kids, treats, toys, school supplies, etc. It was a unique experience, especially while on a cruise ship and enjoyable.
